Liver fibrosis can be treated with interferon for immune modulation. The main functions of interferon are anti-tumor, anti-virus, and immunomodulation. Therefore, interferon can be used as an anti-infective and immunomodulatory treatment for liver fibrosis. Adverse effects of interferon can be seen in flu-like symptoms, namely fever, chills, decreased white blood cells, platelets and reticulocytes, and erythema at the injection site. There can also be alopecia, rash, drowsiness, dyspnea, allergic reactions, decreased liver function, elevated blood creatinine, accelerated blood sedimentation, transient liver injury, generalized weakness, alopecia, nasal congestion, rhinorrhea, epithelial atrophy, drowsiness and even seizures. It should be noted that the use of interferon is prohibited for those who are allergic to interferon, severe cardiac, hepatic and renal insufficiency, and bone marrow suppression. Interferon needs to be used under the guidance of a professional doctor.
