Bacterial otitis externa is an inflammation of the skin and subcutaneous tissues of the external auditory canal caused by bacterial infection, including diffuse otitis externa, limited otitis externa and necrotizing otitis externa. 2. Location: Bacterial otitis externa occurs in the ear canal, not in the tympanic membrane.
