Qi depression and Qi stagnation are the same. Qi stagnation evidence, also known as qi depression evidence and qi knot evidence, is caused by the blockage of qi (obstruction of qi’s operation) and its poor operation.
Qi stagnation syndrome refers to the blockage of qi in a certain viscera or part of the body and its poor functioning, which is mainly manifested by pain, distension and stringy pulse. Qi stagnation is mostly caused by emotional disorders, overthinking, depression and sadness; or obstruction by dampness, stagnation by cold or trauma; or obstruction by stasis of blood, phlegm (a pathological product of impaired metabolism of water and fluid), accumulation of worms, accumulation of food (accumulation of poorly digested food in the stomach), sand and stones; or obstruction of qi due to weakness of qi in the organs and deficiency of yang qi, which is weak and inefficient in its functioning.
