If the ankle fracture is relatively minor, you can walk with partial weight bearing after 1 month of external fixation in a cast. If the fracture is more serious, surgery is required and you can walk normally in 2-4 weeks after surgery. Ankle fractures are relatively common in clinical practice, and the exact fracture and degree of fracture damage need to be determined by X-ray or CT examination. Patients with relatively minor fractures can usually be treated conservatively; patients with severe fractures require plate and screw internal fixation surgery, after which the stitches are usually removed in 2 weeks and they can walk normally, but usually with partial weight bearing. Whether the fracture is minor or severe, it usually takes 3 months before the patient can walk normally. With surgical treatment, it is possible to walk earlier, but it takes at least about 1 month.
