How many days to remove the cast of ankle fracture

The ankle fracture needs to be immobilized for 6-8 weeks and the cast can be removed if clinical bony healing is achieved by X-ray review, but it is important not to go down to the ground prematurely. If there is no displaced ankle fracture, as long as the ankle is fixed in 90 degree neutral position for 3-4 weeks, with accurate repositioning, effective fixation, and with functional exercise, you can go down to the ground early. In case of combined posterior ankle fracture, the patient should be fixed for 5-6 weeks and can be reviewed twice a week by X-ray and again in the middle of the period, and only when bony healing is achieved can he go down to the ground. During this period, patients should be instructed to move their toes and dorsiflex the ankle joint more often, otherwise it may cause stiffness and limited movement of the joint and affect the weight-bearing function of the joint.
