Dependency disorder is a syndrome that can be seen in many types of mental illnesses. It is a condition in which a person is overly dependent or obsessed with other people or objects, or possibly a thing, and in severe cases may go to great lengths to get the person or object they want or to achieve their goals. It can be seen mainly in addictions, such as alcohol addiction or drug addiction, or in compulsive disorders, such as shopaholism. It can also be seen in patients with paranoid disorders, such as paranoia and paranoid states. It may also be seen in patients with impulse control disorders such as hair pulling disorder and arsonism.
