How to identify early autism

Today, a family came in, looking anxious. They reported that their one year and four month old baby does not look at people, does not talk, loves to watch commercials, loves to play in circles by himself, and the doctor gave the diagnosis of autistic tendency. The parents were helpless and at a loss. Since the day the baby was born, the joy of being a first-time parent was overwhelming, and the whole family paid full attention to the baby’s growth, little by little, not daring to relax at all. So, why did this baby go to the hospital for a diagnosis? What is autism? What are the early symptoms that indicate autistic tendencies? Autism, also known as autism, is a pervasive developmental disorder characterized by marked social interaction, abnormal verbal communication and stereotypical repetitive behaviors. In fact, most of the early symptoms appear in infancy, and babies around half a year old may start to reflect certain signs of autism. Some babies even refuse to be hugged or physically touched by their families. By the time a baby is 1 year old, there are some typical signs for parents to consider. For example, they are unable to make eye contact with their parents; they do not react and respond when their parents call them by name; they cannot recognize their parents and cannot respond normally to external stimuli; they are not interested in the people and objects around them. On the other hand, there are some atypical signs that parents should pay attention to, such as the baby not yet mumbling or some actions that express emotions. At around 3 years old, we should pay attention to baby’s interests and behaviors, such as baby shows narrow interests, stereotypical and repetitive behaviors, and a strong demand for the environment to remain the same. Parents need to pay attention if the child is often focused on one or several games or activities for a long time, such as being obsessed with spinning wheels, monotonously placing blocks or objects, not being able to play with toys properly, watching TV commercials with enthusiasm, being uninterested in cartoons, children’s shows, animated movies that babies usually like, and having difficulty adapting to new environments. Where to diagnose suspected autism? So, what should we do if our baby shows the above symptoms? It is best for parents to take their babies to the neurology, psychiatry and behavioral development departments of regular hospitals for consultation and relevant examination and diagnosis. They should also go to an institution for intervention training as soon as possible. What should I do if my baby has autistic traits? After formal training, autistic babies can improve their social skills, language skills and self-care skills to different degrees. Early identification and active intervention is very important. In addition, parents should continue to learn and cooperate with the teacher to complete the training to promote positive development and improve the baby’s abilities in various areas.
