How long it takes for the swelling to go down in the tibia and fibula depends on the severity of the damage to the broken end of the fracture and the degree of swelling in the surrounding tissues. The swelling usually goes down in about two weeks for milder injuries, and takes about six weeks or more for severe ones.
If the tibiofibular fracture site has a mild fracture, with little bleeding from the broken end and no significant damage to the surrounding soft tissues, the swelling can be gradually absorbed and subside in about two weeks.
However, if the tibial fibula fracture is more serious, the fracture end has obvious damage and displacement, resulting in obvious bleeding at the fracture site and obvious swelling of the soft tissues, then it will take a longer period of time, about six weeks or so, or even more time for the swelling to subside completely.
Patients are advised to consult a doctor to determine the cause of the fracture and to seek treatment.
