Do you have to do a biopsy for HPV16 positivity?

HPV 16 positive does not necessarily require a biopsy, but still needs to be analyzed on a case-by-case basis. HPV infection is very common among women, and there are two subtypes of HPV infection, high risk and low risk, but HPV infection does not necessarily mean cervical cancer, HPV is a human papillomavirus, and viral infection will cause lesions in the cervix, which may turn into cancer, but more often HPV infection only causes inflammatory changes, which do not require special treatment at this time. Therefore, a positive HPV16 test should be combined with other tests and a colposcopy by a gynecologist to see if there are any problems with the tissue mucosa and the cervical mucosa. If the overall mucosa is smooth and there is no erosion, bleeding, necrosis, etc., you may only need a TCT, or cervical cytology, for screening. If TCT is negative and only HPV16 is positive, cervical biopsy is not necessary and only follow-up is needed after treatment. However, if HPV16 is positive and the cervical TCT results are also problematic, such as when there are low-grade or high-grade lesions, cervical biopsy is needed, so HPV16 positivity should be combined with other conditions to see if biopsy is needed.
