Usually metronidazole can be chosen for oral and topical application according to the dosage form, while 15% azelaic acid belongs to the dermatologic use, which can be chosen for topical application.
1.Metronidazole: It can be used for the treatment of intestinal and extra-intestinal amebiasis, and also for the treatment of vaginal trichomoniasis, pouch worm disease and cutaneous leishmaniasis, guinea worm infections and so on. It is also now widely used in the treatment of anaerobic infections.
If it is in tablet or capsule form, it can be taken orally, 2~3 times a day, 0.2g~0.6g at a time.If it is in ointment form, first clean the affected area with warm water, dry it and then apply the product topically. Rub gently for a few moments and apply topically once a day in the morning and evening.
Adverse reactions such as numbness of extremities, abnormal sensation, nausea, loss of appetite, and urticaria may occur with the use of metronidazole preparations. It is contraindicated in pregnant and lactating women, children and patients with alcoholism, in patients with active central nervous system disorders and blood disorders, and in those who are allergic to metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives.
2.15% Azelaic acid: used for mild and moderate inflammatory acne vulgaris topical treatment. After washing and drying the skin, apply the product in a thin layer on the acne. Apply twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening.
Adverse reactions such as erythema, dry skin, rash, flaking, irritation, dermatitis and contact dermatitis may occur. It is contraindicated for those who are allergic to any of the ingredients in this product. In case of allergic or severe irritating reactions while using this product, the drug should be stopped immediately and appropriate treatment should be carried out.
In addition, patients are advised to use Metronidazole and 15% Azelaic Acid under the supervision of a physician and not for private use.
