Precautions after thymoma surgery

After thymoma surgery, there are two main considerations. Since most thymoma surgeries are performed through two main surgical approaches, one is the conventional, standard median surgical incision, where an incision is made in the middle of the chest, the sternum is sawed open and the thymoma is completely removed, the surrounding fat is cut away, and then the sternum is tied up with stainless steel wire or with a special sternal ligature. The incision is relatively large, but because the sternum is very well fixed, the pain of the surgery is not very severe. However, regardless of the median incision and the later lumpectomy lateral incision, which is made in the axilla, both surgeries face a pain problem, especially the latter lumpectomy incision, although it is smaller, the patient still has pain because it has to pass between the ribs. Therefore, the first issue after thymoma surgery is to treat the pain, to make the patient avoid coughing and to avoid infection, especially in patients with combined thymoma and myasthenia gravis, where postoperative infection is especially important. The second concern after thymoma surgery is wound healing, pay attention to nutrition and high protein diet, which will help to promote wound healing.
