Whether cirrhotic patients can prolong their life after splenic embolization intervention needs to be determined according to the specific conditions of the patients. If the procedure is successful in abating splenic function, it will help to prolong the life of the patients; if the procedure is unsuccessful or the side effects are obvious, causing splenic necrosis and so on, it may not prolong the life of the patients.
1. Favorable effect: portal hypertension caused by liver cirrhosis will lead to hypersplenism, accompanied by the reduction of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets, and through minimally invasive way to block the splenic artery, play the role of reducing the splenic function, so as to make platelets rise, and strive for splenectomy for the surgical conditions or surgical opportunities, there is a probability that the patient’s life span can be effectively prolonged.
2. Unfavorable effect: at present, it is difficult to get ideal effect of splenic embolism in clinic, if splenic embolism is too serious, it will cause necrosis of spleen, as well as splenic abscess, accompanied by long term fever, which is unfavorable to the life of most of the patients with liver cirrhosis.
Patients should consult the doctor in time to clarify the diagnosis and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
