1. Strengthening the Spleen and Tonifying the Kidneys Soup is from “Ancient and Modern Famous Prescriptions”, which is composed of Chuan Renjian, Chuan Houpu, Atractylodes macrocephala, Codonopsis pilosulae, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Poria cocos, Fragrant Fructus, Paeonia lactiflora, Fructus schisandrae chinensis and Semen cuscutae. It has the effect of strengthening the spleen and tonifying the kidney.
This formula is mainly used in treating symptoms such as soreness and fatigue of the waist and legs, mild swelling of the lower limbs, lack of appetite, abdominal distension and fullness, pain in the heel, tiredness and weakness (fatigue and weakness), scanty and unshaped stools, profuse urination, fat and large tongue with teeth marks, and thin and white fur on the tongue caused by deficiency of the spleen and the kidneys. The adverse effects and contraindications of this formula are not known.
2. Si Shen Wan (四神丸) is from “The Essentials of Evidence”, which is composed of Schisandra chinensis (五味子), nutmeg (肉豆蔻), tonic acid (补骨脂), and Cornus officinalis (吴茱萸). It can treat symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, fear of coldness in the lower back, weakness, lassitude (神疲力), mental fatigue (精神疲惫,身体损力), indigestion, etc., which are caused by deficiency of the spleen and kidney. Note that it is contraindicated in diarrhea where intestinal stagnation has not been cleared, and is contraindicated in acute diarrhea.
