The membrane falls off a few days after adenoids surgery

Currently, the more popular procedure for adenoidectomy is the nasal endoscopic plasma adenoid ablation procedure. The advantages of this procedure are less intraoperative bleeding, less postoperative patient response, and the formation of a pseudomembrane in the operative area about the day after the procedure. The pseudomembrane is a normal protective film that prevents infection and bleeding of the adenoidal wound. The adenoid pseudomembrane begins to fall off in about seven days, and the adenoids will all fall off once the tissue and wound have healed. After adenoid surgery, patients may experience nasal congestion and runny nose for a short period of time, which is related to the swelling of the mucous membrane and the formation of pseudomembrane in the operated area. After seven days or so, the pseudomembrane starts to fall off gradually, the patient’s nasal congestion and other discomfort will be significantly improved.
