Noise reduction to protect hearing

March 3, 2012 is the 13th National Ear Day, and this year’s theme is “Reduce Noise and Protect Hearing”. According to statistics, noise is the second cause of deafness after aging, accounting for 37% of all causes of deafness in humans. The role of hearing in people’s social interaction is extraordinary. How can we reduce the damage to our hearing from noise in life, doctors have summarized eight details that can help us protect our ears: 1. Avoid exposing yourself to very noisy sounds for a long time; 2. In unavoidable situations such as at work or operating machines, for example, when the ambient sound is greater than 80-90 decibels, you must wear appropriate hearing protection, such as anti-noise earplugs or earmuffs; 3. When enjoying music, remember to reduce the volume to the point where you can hear the normal conversation of people around you for more than an hour; 4. Wear earplugs at rock concerts, racing cars or other noisy events; 5. Workers who are often exposed to music, such as musicians, singers, workers engaged in construction and renovation industries exposed to noise, should have special custom-made earplugs to protect their ears; 6. 7. The need to give the ears regular rest after exposure to noise; 8. Regular hearing checks.
