Gallstones 8mm occur in the gallbladder, in the absence of other factors, is not serious, occur in the bile ducts, timely treatment, the severity is not high.

Gallstones are divided into cholesterol stones and bile pigment stones. Cholesterol stones are formed in the gallbladder and are caused by oversaturation of cholesterol in the bile, abnormalities in cholesterol metabolism, and abnormalities in the gallbladder; bile pigment stones occur mainly in the bile ducts inside and outside the liver, and are caused by biliary tract infections and biliary stagnation.

When 8mm gallstones occur in the gallbladder, they often do not cause symptoms and are often found during physical examination. If there are no risk factors such as thickening of the gallbladder wall or combination of gallbladder polyps, they can be left in place for the time being and are not serious.

If the stones occur in the bile ducts, they can be removed by retrograde cholangiopancreatography because they are less than 1cm in size, and are not considered serious. However, if bile duct stones are combined with biliary tract infection, and in severe cases, progress to septic cholangitis, it can lead to chills and high fever, and in severe cases, even shock, which is a more serious situation.
