Intestinal cramps can be categorized as abdominal pain in Chinese medicine, and can be massaged at the Tianshu (Heavenly Pivot), Shusanli (Foot Sanli), and Shangjuhu (Upper Giant Hollow) acupoints.
Tianshu is located in the abdomen, horizontally flat umbilicus, 2 inches away from the anterior midline. It can regulate qi and relieve pain, activate blood circulation and dissipate blood stasis, and clear away dampness and heat. It can be used for abdominal pain, abdominal distension, constipation, diarrhea, dysentery, menstrual irregularities and dysmenorrhea.
Foot Sanli is located on the lateral side of the lower leg, 3 inches below the calf’s nose, 1 transverse finger outside the anterior ridge of the tibia, on the line connecting the calf’s nose and Xiexi. It can be used for stomachache, vomiting, choking, abdominal distension, diarrhea, dysentery, constipation, lower limb impotence, epilepsy, intestinal carbuncle (refers to carbuncle occurring in the intestinal tract), and symptoms of deficiency labor.
Upper Giant Void is located on the lateral side of the lower leg, 6 inches below the calf’s nose, on the line connecting the calf’s nose and Xiexi. It can be used for intestinal tinnitus, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation, intestinal carbuncle, dysentery, and impotence paralysis of the lower limbs.
Patients are advised to take treatment under the guidance of a doctor.
