What causes hypertonia?

The tension of a muscle at rest in a relaxed state is called muscle tone and is the basis for maintaining various postures of the body as well as normal movement. People with high muscle tone may exhibit abnormal posture both during exercise and at rest muscle tone is used to illustrate the state of the muscle in various meanings. Both when the physiology is quiet, before the start of muscle movement, maintaining a reflexive state of readiness for tension, as well as clinically passive pulling when resistance is felt and the hardness of the muscle when touched. In addition to the physical and chemical properties of the muscle itself and the activity of the extensor reflex system, the extension and elasticity of the ligaments and joint capsule that make up the joint tissue should also be noted when observing the resistance of the muscle when it is moved. Several common methods of examination of muscle tone; 1, the angle of the adductor muscle Examination of the child in a supine position, the examiner holds the child’s two knee joints, so that its lower limbs remain in a straight position, and then slowly spread both lower limbs to both sides, to the largest possible extent, to observe the angle between the two thighs. 2, N fossa angle The child is lying on his back, bending the thighs in the knee-chest position, and then spread the lower legs so that they are as straight as possible, pay attention to the pelvis do not leave the bed, observe the angle between the lower legs and thighs. 3.Heel touch ear test The child is supine, pull the child’s foot in the direction of the same side of the ear as far as possible, the pelvis does not leave the table, observe the angle between the heel and the line of the hip joint and the table. 4.Foot dorsiflexion angle The examiner uses the thumb against the sole of the child’s foot, other fingers hold the calf and heel, dorsiflexion of the foot in the direction of the calf, observe the angle between the back of the foot and the front of the calf, normal within 1 year old children between 60 to 70 degrees, less than this angle indicates low muscle tone, greater than this angle indicates high muscle tone.
