Lumbar tuberculosis paraspinal abscess is dangerous if left untreated.
Lumbar tuberculosis is an infectious disease of the spine caused by infection with Mycobacterium tuberculosis, which starts slowly and may be accompanied by a low-grade fever.
A paravertebral abscess occurs when caseous necrotic material from the infection of lumbar spine tuberculosis drains into the soft tissues on either side of the vertebrae and swells. Paravertebral abscesses can erode the vertebrae and even compress the lumbar nerves.
Lumbar spine tuberculosis with paravertebral abscess should be treated surgically, with incision and drainage, elimination of pus and treatment with anti-tuberculosis drugs. Patients can use isoniazid, rifampicin and other anti-tuberculosis drugs for treatment. During the postoperative recovery period, patients can also immobilize the lumbar region with a brace or undergo physical therapy to accelerate recovery.
Because lumbar tuberculosis with paravertebral abscess is more dangerous, it is recommended that the patient consult a doctor as soon as possible and choose the appropriate treatment according to the examination results and the doctor’s advice.
