Can hand, foot and mouth disease cause itchy feet

HFMD does not usually present with itchy feet. Patients with HFMD usually present with a sore mouth or throat (in children who can verbalize) or with refusal to eat (in children who cannot verbalize). The patient’s rash usually involves the hands (dorsal, interphalangeal, and palms), feet (dorsum of the toes, lateral margins of the feet, soles, and heels), buttocks, legs (upper thighs), and arms. The skin lesions of HFMD are not itchy and are usually painless, although some cases caused by certain serotypes (e.g., coxsackievirus A6) may be painful. The lesions usually subside within 3-4 days. Therefore HFMD may cause pain in the skin lesions without causing itchy feet. If itching of the skin occurs, a combination of bacterial infection or other allergic reaction needs to be considered. For bacterial infections, anti-infections such as mupirocin cream can be used, and for allergies, anti-allergy medications such as oral loratadine can be used. Hand, foot and mouth disease requires standardized treatment in the Department of Infectious Diseases, and it is recommended that specific medications be used under the guidance of a specialist.
