Can pelvic inflammatory disease be seen on ultrasound?

Whether pelvic inflammation can be seen on ultrasound depends on the severity of the pelvic inflammation. If the inflammation is mild, ultrasound may not be able to see it; if it is severe pelvic inflammation ultrasound helps to diagnose it.
Mild pelvic inflammation, usually no obvious changes in local tissues, ultrasound or imaging examination are not able to make a judgment. When pelvic inflammation is further aggravated, local tissue inflammatory changes, and even pelvic effusion, pelvic abscess, etc., ultrasound can help assist in the diagnosis.
The diagnosis of pelvic inflammatory disease should also be based on the patient’s symptoms, gynecological examination and indicators of infection, etc., and bacterial culture should be carried out if necessary.
Once pelvic inflammatory disease is considered, it is necessary to go to the hospital in time. Pelvic inflammatory disease may lead to pelvic pain, infertility, frozen pelvis and so on in serious cases.
