Can moxibustion treat knee injuries?

Knee injuries can be treated with moxibustion after the middle stage because moxibustion activates blood circulation, relieves pain and promotes healing. The heat generated locally by moxibustion also promotes local blood circulation and restores muscle function. Because the knee joint needs to be immobilized after an injury, immobilization can cause the muscles around the knee joint to atrophy, stiffen, and shorten, all of which are not conducive to recovery. Moxibustion combined with muscle training can be very effective in restoring the function of the knee joint. However, moxibustion is only suitable for the rehabilitation period, not for the acute phase of knee injury. Because the acute stage of knee injury is in a state of bleeding and swelling, moxibustion is not only ineffective, but can also aggravate the bleeding and swelling, resulting in longer recovery time. Therefore, moxibustion should not be applied to knee injuries until at least two weeks after the injury.
