Should polycystic ovaries be treated with surgery or medication

When polycystic ovaries are treated, medication is the main treatment. If surgical treatment is desired, laparoscopic perforation of bilateral ovarian cysts can be performed to help promote follicular drainage and reduce cortical thickening of the ovaries. A partial wedge resection of the ovaries can also be performed to reduce the ovarian load caused by polycystic ovarian cancer. There are also risks associated with this procedure, which can cause ovarian hypofunction and also ovarian abnormalities that increase the chance of adhesions. Therefore, most of them need to be treated with oral medications. Except in the case of combined hysterolaparoscopic surgery, when bilateral perforation of the ovaries can be performed. When oral medications are administered, normal hormone levels are usually restored in about 3 months or 6 months, and if pregnancy is needed, oral ovulation-promoting medications can be used to increase the chances of conception.
