What to do about otitis media caused by adenoid hypertrophy

Otitis media is a complication of adenoid hypertrophy. If complications are caused by adenoid hypertrophy, it is often recommended to consider surgery to remove the enlarged adenoids. Adenoid hypertrophy is a relatively common disorder in children and is particularly likely to lead to nighttime snoring, open-mouth breathing, and jaw and facial deformities. Normally, the adenoids should shrink by the age of 9-10 years, but some children have overly enlarged adenoids and rarely have the chance to shrink on their own, so it is recommended to consider surgical removal. If the child has otitis media, tympanic membrane aspiration can also be considered to completely extract the fluid from the middle ear cavity.
