If there is only skin or mucous membrane damage, but no bleeding, then there is no need to inject antiserum. If the bite of a sick dog is bleeding, then it is necessary to inject rabies immunoglobulin or anti-rabies serum, which can quickly neutralize the rabies virus that has invaded the body. In cases where the skin or mucous membrane is broken but there is no bleeding, only the rabies vaccine is given. Since the incubation period of rabies is usually 1~2 months, there is enough time to stimulate the body to develop immunity after the vaccine is given. If the bite bleeds, then rabies immunoglobulin or anti-rabies virus serum should be injected, the antiserum can quickly neutralize the invading rabies virus and prolong the incubation period to stop the virus from spreading, otherwise there may be cases where the amount of virus is so high that the vaccine alone is ineffective.
