About “Capsule Endoscopy”

Since the introduction of “capsule endoscopy” in our endoscopy unit, patients have been coming in from time to time to inquire about it. As a result, most patients give up due to the high cost of the test. Now, I would like to briefly introduce the capsule endoscope. It is a disposable item that contains a flash device and a camera sensor. Once swallowed, the images are taken throughout the digestive tract, stored in a computer and analyzed by a remote receiver in the abdomen. Finally, the capsule endoscope is expelled with the patient’s stool, completing the entire examination. Pros: It is possible to examine the small intestine without significant pain to the patient. Disadvantages: In my opinion, it is too expensive.
