Hashimoto’s thyroiditis leading to hypothyroidism usually requires lifelong medication. Hashimoto’s thyroiditis is the most common type of autoimmune thyroiditis and is characterized by destruction of the follicular epithelial cell structure of the thyroid gland and infiltration of large numbers of lymphocytes. The hypothyroidism caused by Hashimoto’s thyroiditis cannot be self-reduced or stopped. If the patient’s thyroid function is normal and there is no combination of goiter and compression, treatment is usually not required. Hypothyroidism caused by Hashimoto’s thyroiditis usually requires lifelong thyroid hormone replacement therapy. Hypothyroidism caused by Hashimoto’s thyroiditis should be treated with medication under the direction of a doctor, and the dose of the medication should not be adjusted on its own.
