Postoperative complications of meningioma can include brain hemorrhage, intracranial infection, cerebral edema, secondary epilepsy and so on, which can be fatal for any one of them if not treated actively.
1. Postoperative complications of meningioma such as cerebral hemorrhage, if the hemorrhage site is the brain stem or the hemorrhage volume is large, cerebral hernia can be formed, leading to respiratory and cardiac arrest, which is life-threatening.
2. Intracranial infection may occur in meningioma surgery, invading the brain parenchyma and meninges, which may form systemic infection, increased intracranial pressure and life-threatening loss of consciousness in severe cases.
3. After meningioma surgery, the brain tissue in the operation area is locally damaged, the intracranial pressure increases, if not actively dehydrated, brain hernia can be formed.
4. Secondary epilepsy mostly occurs in the postoperative cerebral edema period, neuron abnormal discharge, if the epileptic seizure persists, it can cause ischemia and hypoxia of the brain cells, causing respiratory failure and other life-threatening conditions.
Postoperative complications of meningioma vary from case to case, no matter what kind of complication it is, it should be consulted and treated in time.
