The tendency for lymphoma stem cell transplants to recur is related to the fact that there are still lymphoma cells in the body.
Lymphoma stem cell transplantation is preceded by chemotherapy and other pre-treatments, which can maximize the killing of lymphoma cells in the body, but it is not guaranteed to kill 100 percent of the lymphoma cells. If there are lymphoma cells left in the body, once these lymphoma cells proliferate after stem cell transplantation, it will lead to the recurrence of lymphoma.
The duration of relapse of lymphoma after stem cell transplantation also determines the prognosis of the patient. If there is a short-term relapse after stem cell transplantation, the prognosis is very poor; if there is a relapse five or even more than ten years after stem cell transplantation, the prognosis is good, and chemotherapy can be applied again, which is often with ideal curative effect.
