San Bai Tang is composed of Bai Shao (白芍), Bai Zhu (白术), Bai Fu Ling (白茯苓), and Licorice (甘草). It is mainly used for treating deficiency vexation (vexation caused by deficiency heat in the body), diarrhea, and thirst.
White peony can nourish blood, regulate menstruation, astringe yin and stop sweating (astringing yin fluid to reduce sweating), soften the liver and relieve pain (treating pain caused by deficiency of liver yin and liver blood), and calm liver yang; Atractylodes macrocephala can strengthen the spleen and benefit qi, dry dampness and induce diuresis, and stop sweating; Poria cocos can induce diuresis and seepage of dampness (facilitating the movement of water to dispel dampness), strengthen the spleen and calm the heart; Licorice can tonify the spleen and benefit qi, and harmonize all medicines (harmonizing the properties of different Chinese medicines).
