Efficacy and Effects of Semixia Houpu Tang

The efficacy and effects of Semixia and Huper Tang mainly include promoting the circulation of Qi, dispersing knots, subduing rebellious phlegm (correcting retrograde Qi and clearing phlegm from the body), and treating plum nucleus qi caused by phlegm-qi stagnation in the throat, which is often manifested clinically as the presence of a foreign body in the throat, which is unable to be spat out or swallowed.
Semixia Houpu Tang is composed of Semixia, Houpu, Poria, Ginger and Su Ye, which has the effects of promoting Qi circulation and dispersing knots, lowering rebelliousness and resolving phlegm.
This formula is commonly used in the treatment of Meibei Qi (similar to pharyngeal dysphagia) caused by emotional upset and phlegm-qi interconnection (phlegm in the body accompanied by poor qi), with specific symptoms such as pharyngeal obstruction, coughing or vomiting, swallowing, gagging and vomiting, and fullness in the chest and diaphragm.
In modern times, Hemixia and Houpu Tang has been used to treat chronic pharyngitis, chronic bronchitis, esophageal spasm, etc., which is characterized by stagnation of qi and phlegm obstruction.
At present, the contraindications and adverse reactions are not clear. However, it should be noted that the formula contains a lot of pungent, warm, bitter and dry products, which are only suitable for those with phlegm-qi interconnections and no heat. If zygomatic redness (redness of cheeks and zygomatic bones), bitterness in the mouth, red tongue with little moss are attributed to Qi stagnation and transformation of fire, and yin injury with little fluids, this formula should not be used even if it has the characteristics of prune nucleus qi.
