Foreign body sensation in the eyelids due to impingement can usually be identified by an experienced doctor with a slit-lamp examination, where the eyelashes can be observed growing towards the side of the eyeball and touching the cornea, which can be characterised by conjunctival congestion, dryness and pain with a foreign body sensation.
