Xiong Huang is a sulfide ore, mainly containing disulfide diarsenic, divided into two types of Xiong Huang and waist Huang, with waist Huang of good quality. It is pungent and warm, toxic, and belongs to the large intestine and liver meridian, with the functions of detoxifying and killing worms, drying dampness and dispelling phlegm, intercepting malaria and fixing fright. It has good detoxification and insecticidal effect in treating sores and is effective when used alone. Xiong Huang treats sores and carbuncles and furuncles, both to relieve swelling and pain and to prevent internal attack of toxic gases. For the treatment of itchy skin caused by ringworm, Xiong Huang can be used externally with alum powder. This product has insecticidal and dampness-drying effects and can also treat leprosy, which can be combined with pig’s tooth soap. Xiong Huang can treat epilepsy caused by phlegm clouding the heart and is often combined with Zhu Sha. This product warms the lung and dispels phlegm, which can treat asthma, and is usually combined with croton and almond.
