Calcification of thyroid nodule for ten years is considered to be benign possibility, it is recommended to continue to observe, if there are signs of malignancy, surgery can be considered.
Thyroid nodule calcification has microcalcification and gross calcification, microcalcification is characterized by gravelly, granular, acicular or punctate, with a diameter less than or equal to 2mm, and gross calcification refers to patchy, speckled, curved or other irregular strongly echogenic light clusters, with a diameter greater than 2mm.
If the thyroid calcified nodules did not change in ten years, without nodule volume increase and infiltration to the surrounding tissue, it is considered to be benign possibility, thyroid ultrasound can be carried out to clarify the classification of the nodules, grade 3 or less nodules and nodule volume is small, can continue to observe. If the size of the nodule is large and causes pressure symptoms or is malignant, surgical resection is required.
Thyroid nodules with calcification for ten years should be treated under doctor’s guidance.
