Western women look beautiful with a well-defined face, i.e., the combination of a high nose, high cheekbones, and deep eye sockets with distinctive features is the standard for measuring female beauty. However, oriental women’s faces are characterized by soft curves and harmonious features, and their faces are oval and goose-egg shaped. Therefore, high cheekbones will seriously jeopardize the facial beauty of oriental women, giving people a cold feeling and making them look gaunt and old. The old saying that “if a woman has high cheekbones, she can kill her husband without a knife” is a vivid illustration of the taboo against women with high cheekbones in ancient China. However, it is now possible to improve the facial contour through zygomatic bone reduction surgery to remove the hat of “husband-killing phase”. Zygomatic bone reduction surgery involves making an incision on the skin surface, peeling off the zygomatic bone layer by layer, and removing the appropriate amount of bone tissue with osteotomizing instruments to reduce the height of the zygomatic bone.
