What’s the difference between Job’s tears and barley?

Job’s tears and Job’s tears are the same drug and there is no difference between the two. Job’s tears are known as Coix lacryma in traditional Chinese medicine, also known as Job’s tear grains. Job’s tears have the effect of strengthening the spleen and eliminating dampness (by tonifying the spleen to make the dampness discharge), removing paralysis, draining pus as well as detoxifying and dispersing knots. Coix seed is a commonly used clinical Chinese medicine, is the dried mature seed kernel of the plant Coix lacryma, family Gramineae. It is cool in nature, sweet in flavor and light in taste; it belongs to the spleen, stomach and lung meridians. It has the effects of strengthening the spleen and stopping diarrhea, inducing diuresis and seepage of dampness (promoting the flow of water to get rid of dampness), removing paralysis and draining pus, and detoxifying and dispersing knots. This drug is mainly used to treat edema, low urine, diarrhea due to spleen deficiency (diarrhea caused by weak spleen function), dampness paralysis limb constriction, warts (sarcoma growing on the skin), intestinal carbuncle (carbuncle occurring in the intestines and bowels, manifested by fever, pain in the right abdomen, and palpable lump) and other conditions. The adverse effects of Coix lacryma are not clear. It should be used with caution for those with spleen deficiency without dampness and dry stools, and should be taken with caution by pregnant women and those with allergies. It is contraindicated for those who are allergic to it. If there is a need for medication, please take it properly under the guidance of a professional Chinese medicine practitioner.
