Can you eat before an MRI?

Avoidance of food and drink is usually recommended before an MRI. However, a small amount of food can be eaten for non-digestive areas if hunger is severe, while fasting is recommended for digestive areas; fasting is required for serious injuries with the possibility of surgery. 1. Examination site (1) Non-digestive system parts: including limbs, neck, skull and brain, etc. Generally, it is recommended to examine on an empty stomach, and if hunger is severe, you can add chocolate and other foods to avoid overfilling. (2) Digestive system parts: including gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas and other parts, it is recommended to fasting examination, so as to avoid gastric contents cover or digestive tract is in a functional state, which will affect the examination results. 2. Situations requiring strict fasting examination (1) Diseases that are suspected of serious injury with surgical possibilities, such as cerebral hemorrhage and cerebral infarction. (2) Diseases with the possibility of aspiration caused by vomiting, such as cardiac infarction, hyperthyroidism, craniocerebral injury and so on. Before the magnetic resonance examination, it is recommended to arrange the diet reasonably and avoid eating before the examination.
