Lichen planus is a chronic, inflammatory disease of unknown origin. Lichen planus can affect the skin, hair follicles, nails, and mucous membranes and is mostly seen in middle-aged adults. Lichen planus is characterized by small, purplish-red, polygonal, flat papules with a shiny surface and white, reticulated streaks. Patients often feel itchy on their own, and the rash may begin to fade after a few months to a few years, with some, if not all, of the rashes being hyperpigmented. For the treatment of lichen planus, first of all, if it is chronic, it is important to stop using medications that may trigger lichen planus. It can be treated with topical topical glucocorticoid ointment and retinoic acid ointment. For hypertrophic rashes, glucocorticoids can also be injected into the lesions. There are also physical treatments such as cryotherapy, laser therapy, and narrow-wave ultraviolet therapy.
