How long does it take to recover from a second-degree meniscus injury?

Second-degree meniscus injuries usually take 6-8 weeks to recover. Second-degree meniscus injuries are demonstrated on MRI by the presence of thin strips of high signal shadow inside the meniscus that are not connected to the joint cavity. There are no tears on the surface of the meniscus and recovery can be achieved with conservative treatment. In the acute phase of meniscal injury, the knee can be immobilized in an extended position with a knee brace for 2-3 weeks, while non-steroidal anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs, such as loxoprofen sodium, can be taken to reduce pain symptoms. If the meniscus is injured at the anterior horn or posterior horn, the knee should not be weight bearing for 6 weeks after the injury. If it is a meniscal body injury, the affected limb should not bear weight for 8 weeks after the injury. Daily quadriceps strength training can strengthen the knee joint stability and promote the recovery of meniscal injury.
