Is it normal to have a fever with a brain stem hemorrhage?

Fever is relatively common after brainstem hemorrhage, but not normal. Fever after brainstem hemorrhage mainly consists of central hyperthermia and fever caused by concurrent infection. 1. Central hyperthermia: brainstem hemorrhage refers to hemorrhage in the brainstem (brain bridge, midbrain and medulla oblongata). After brainstem hemorrhage, the sympathetic nerve fibers in the brainstem are damaged, and the hypothalamus’s regulation of body temperature is blocked, which makes it difficult to dissipate the heat, thus, persistent central hyperthermia (≥39℃) occurs. 2. Complicated infections: patients with brainstem hemorrhage are prone to lung infections due to prolonged bed rest, resulting in decreased ventilatory function and difficulty in expectoration; patients are also prone to urinary tract infections due to prolonged retention of urinary catheters; the above mentioned infections are complications of brainstem hemorrhage, which can lead to fever. Patients with brain stem hemorrhage should actively cooperate with the doctor’s treatment and strengthen nursing care.
