It is usually possible to remove the cast at 60 days for an external ankle fracture.
For ankle fractures, 6 to 8 weeks of external immobilization (cast) is generally required. Currently, the external ankle cast has been immobilized for 60 days, which has reached the conventional time for removing the cast, and the cast can be removed if clinical bony healing is achieved. If it is a comminuted fracture, the time for removing the cast can be extended appropriately.
It should be noted that the cast can be removed does not mean that the fracture has been healed, but only represents the growth of local bone scab, still need to rest, avoid blindly early weight bearing, in order to avoid secondary fracture.
When fracture occurs, if the recovery process of joint activity obstacles, should be under the guidance of a professional physician timely activities, exercise joint flexion and extension and leg muscle strength, so as not to cause joint and muscle dysfunction after the fracture.
