Perilla is a Chinese herb with a pungent and warm nature, and is classified as belonging to the lung and spleen meridians, which means that the properties of this drug are inclined to pungency and warmth, while its main direction of treatment is the lung and spleen, so it can treat respiratory symptoms of external wind and cold, as well as problems of the spleen meridians, such as nausea and vomiting caused by stomach qi disharmony. Perilla is also divided into perilla leaf, perilla seed and perilla stalk, which differ in their therapeutic effects. Perilla leaf is more inclined to dispelling cold and relieving symptoms, while perilla seed is more inclined to lowering phlegm and moistening the lung, and perilla stalk is more inclined to harmonizing the stomach and lowering qi, treating symptoms of upward flow of stomach qi.
