Babies learn to walk with their feet turned outward because of the low muscle strength and tone of the lower limbs. Because of the poor muscle strength of the lower limbs, the balance and support during walking is poor, so it causes the feet to turn outward in order to increase the contact surface between the torso and the ground and maintain stability. It is important to actively investigate the primary cause, such as whether the baby also has developmental delays such as cognition and language, and whether there are high-risk factors before, during or after birth, such as prematurity, low birth weight, and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, etc. If there are any of these manifestations and medical history, it is important to promptly visit the hospital and give early rehabilitation treatment. If the baby’s foot is simply turned outward, it may be a laxity of the joint ligaments, which will gradually improve after wearing orthopedic shoes and exercising the muscle strength of the lower limbs.
