Normal range of jaundice in children

Jaundice is a phenomenon in which the serum bilirubin increases, causing a yellow coloration of the skin and mucous membranes, and the normal range of the jaundice index in children is related to the day’s age.
Jaundice is mainly caused by bilirubin metabolism disorders and is most commonly seen in the neonatal population.
Most newborns are born with jaundice, which is usually physiologic and is within the normal range if the jaundice does not exceed 15mg/dL within 72 hours.
If jaundice occurs within 24 hours after birth or develops too fast, lasts for a long time, and the jaundice index is higher than 12mg/dL, or even accompanied by anemia, abnormal body temperature, poor feeding, vomiting, etc., it is mostly pathological jaundice. Parents are advised to bring their children to the doctor in time for examination and targeted treatment according to the severity of jaundice.
