The symptoms of eczema in the ear are mainly due to the limited appearance of cutaneous eczema on the skin of the ear canal. Patients are likely to have allergies or often have generalized eczema. The ears of babies are more delicate than those of adults, and moisture and allergies in the ears may lead to eczema in the external auditory canal. Many children have eczema-like changes all over their body, and eczema in the ear canal is a concomitant symptom that may also appear as oozing, redness, swelling, and cracking. It is recommended that the child’s external ear canal be treated with eczema cream as much as possible, and that the mother must reduce the consumption of spicy, stimulating and seafood foods in the diet, especially if the child is breastfed. This avoids causing the child to indirectly eat spicy, stimulating foods that can lead to allergic reactions.
