Characteristics of cholelithiasis pain

Cholelithiasis includes gallbladder stones and bile duct stones, and its pain is mainly located in the right upper abdomen and the middle of the upper abdomen, which is mainly manifested as colic, mostly seen when eating greasy food or sleeping at night, and can radiate to the right shoulder, accompanied by nausea and vomiting. Patients with choledocholithiasis are also prone to high fever and chills, and the body temperature can reach over 39-40℃. Patients with cholelithiasis who experience pain, which many times suggests the presence of symptoms of inflammation, should first be given intravenous fluid therapy, applying antibiotic antispasmodic drugs to control inflammation and relieve symptoms. The choice of further surgery is then based on the specific location and size of the stone. For cholecystitis caused by gallbladder stones, laparoscopic cholecystectomy should be considered, while for bile duct stones, especially choledocholithiasis, if the number of stones is small and the diameter of the stones is small, ERCP can be minimally invasive for stone removal. If the diameter of choledochal stones is large, laparoscopic choledochotomy choledochoscopy can be considered for stone extraction etc.
