There is not a definite number of years after bladder irrigation without recurrence. Some patients may experience recurrence in about a year after bladder irrigation, while some more superficial bladder cancers may not recur even 3-5 years after bladder irrigation. In clinical practice, bladder irrigation is often used only for bladder cancer with superficial infiltration depth to control recurrence and prolong the patient’s life after treatment. If the bladder cancer lesion has invaded the muscle layer of the bladder or even the outer bladder membrane, active bladder irrigation is not appropriate and the patient may have recurrence soon even after receiving bladder irrigation treatment.
