Methods The clinicopathological data and follow-up of 38 patients with surgically resected, pathologically confirmed gastric neuroendocrine carcinoma from May 2006 to July 2011 were retrospectively analyzed. The Kaplan-Meier method was used for univariate survival analysis, and the Cox risk proportional model was used for prognostic multifactorial analysis. Results Thirty-eight patients were followed up, with a median survival time of 25 months and 1-, 3-, and 5-year survival rates of 71.1%, 26.3%, and 15.8%, respectively. Both univariate and multifactorial analyses showed that pathological stage, maximum tumor diameter and surgical approach were independent factors affecting the prognosis of gastric neuroendocrine carcinoma, while gender and age were not related to prognosis. Conclusion Pathological stage, tumor diameter and surgical modality were prognostic influencing factors of gastric neuroendocrine carcinoma. Early diagnosis and radical surgery can help improve the postoperative survival of patients.
