How many ribs?

There are 24 ribs in total, 12 on each side. This number is fixed in all human bodies. There may be variations in the number of ribs due to individual variations, but this is extremely rare. For example, if the patient has a genetic predisposition, the cervical vertebrae may develop abnormal bone growths, resulting in the formation of ribs and other tissues, which are clinically known as cervical ribs. This is particularly rare, and when it occurs, it often causes severe symptoms, such as neck pain and radiating pain in the upper extremities. Otherwise, the number of ribs does not change in the majority of patients. Some patients often ask if it is true that men have one more rib than women as stated in the Bible, but this is not true, the number of ribs is fixed in all populations and there is no gender difference. In some patients who have orthopedic surgeries, such as waist narrowing, the 11th and 12th ribs may be removed, but it has nothing to do with the original number of ribs.
