With the improvement of living standard, the incidence rate of colorectal cancer in China has gradually increased, and rectal cancer accounts for a large proportion of colorectal cancer in China. When patients find out they are suffering from rectal cancer, how should they consult a doctor and what kind of information should they bring with them to get further treatment plan as soon as possible? 1.If a patient has had rectal diagnosis or colonoscopy and biopsy of rectal mass, he/she must bring along the colonoscopy report and pathology report of biopsy, and if possible, he/she should bring along the biopsy pathology slides for pathology consultation in higher hospitals, because pathological diagnosis is a prerequisite for treatment, without biopsy pathology, there is no way to talk about treatment. Imaging reports and films such as pelvic and abdominal cavity MRI or CT should be brought for doctors to see, so that doctors can make preliminary estimation of the preoperative stage of rectal tumor based on the imaging examination and decide the treatment plan according to the stage. Not all rectal cancers will have the best outcome with surgery immediately after detection. When the lesion progresses to a certain extent to reach the progressive stage, applying pre-surgical radiotherapy for local control before surgery can effectively reduce the chance of recurrence after surgery and may improve the success rate of anal preservation, which has been an international consensus. Therefore, preoperative MRI or CT examination is very necessary. Of course, if a patient comes to the hospital when a rectal mass is found, then it is necessary to perform the above-mentioned tests at our hospital before deciding on a treatment plan.
